Vaginal Mesh Complication Surgeons | Mesh Surgery

Over the past several years, the use of MESH GRAFTS for treatment of vaginal prolapse and urinary incontinence has become more common secondary to pursuing higher cure rates (compared to using the patients’ weak native tissue) in women with these disorders. Many different materials have been utilized with some showing higher complication rates versus others.

Type I macroporous, soft, polypropylene mesh has been shown to be the best tolerated material to date for the treatment of female incontinence and prolapse, howevever, unfortunately, complications can still occur with any mesh secondary to the permanent nature of the material.

Complications that are known to occur that may require surgical treatment include:

  • Failure of the Procedure
  • Pain (Vagina, leg, pelvic, adbominal)
  • Infection or rejection of the graft material
  • Recurrent urinary tract infection
  • Extrusion of the mesh into the vagina causing pain, discharge, bleeding
  • Erosion of the mesh into bowel, bladder, urethra, or rectum

Testimonial:

"I had multiple surgeries in my home city in attempts to fix and repair complications I had from mesh that was placed during my initial surgery for vaginal prolapse and incontinence, however they all failed. I had continued problems until I was sent to Atlanta to see Drs Moore and Miklos. They took care of the problems immediately with a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach. My doctor told me that if they couldn’t fix the problem… no-one could. He told me they were the best, and he was right!"
